アトリエで猫を抱く治子。
朝アトリエに入ったら。
1.窓をあけて空気の入れかえ。
2.ポットに湯を沸かす。
（いつ人が来てもよいように。お手伝いさんがいるわけではないからあわてないために）
3.アトリエの中に目ざわりなものがないかを確かめること。
ダンボール箱とかその他アトリエにふさわしくないものがあったら片付けること。
写真を撮ったりするとき特に写っては困るものなど。
（案外、他の人のアトリエの写真にダンボールなどが写っているのです。）
4.すっかりきれいにするのでなく芸術的にちらかしておく。
5.紅茶の用意。

When entering the studio in the morning:
1. Open the window to freshen the air.
2. Boil water in the kettle.(To be ready for anyone who might come, since there is no helper, so as not to be flustered.)
3. Check for any unsightly items in the studio. Remove anything inappropriate for the studio, such as cardboard boxes or other items. Especially remove anything that would be problematic if photographed.(Surprisingly, cardboard boxes often appear in photos of other people’s studios.)
4. Instead of cleaning everything up thoroughly, leave it artistically disheveled.
5. Prepare tea.

絵画教室に来た生徒達にアトリエでお茶振る舞う治子。
紅茶に、スプーン一杯の洋酒を入れて香り付けするのが「治子流」であった。
Haruko serves tea to the students who came to the painting class in the studio.
Her style was to add a spoonful of liqueur to the black tea for flavor.

これが私の毎年のやり方です。
その間に小品を描く時間は十分あるけれど、それにかかっていては大作の方がおろそかになる。
一銭にもならない仕事のために我々は全精神をすり減らして一枚の絵に心を打ち込むのです。」

‘As soon as the spring exhibition is over, I start working on my autumn Nihonbijutsuin paintings.
This is my annual routine.
Although I have plenty of time to create smaller pieces in between, if I focus on them, the larger works will suffer.
We pour our whole spirit into a single painting for work that earns us nothing.’

A snapshot of Haruko Kashiwagi in her later years. In December, she celebrated her birthday with students from her painting class. A few days later, she passed away while bathing.
